Action alert is an early notification mechanism that helps you respond to potential disputes, fraud, or other transaction issues before they escalate. By acting on these alerts in real-time, you can take proactive measures, such as issuing refunds, preventing chargebacks, or blocking suspicious transactions. This helps reduce chargeback ratios and minimize financial losses.

alert_fraud_notice

TC40. Issuing banks submit fraud reports to Visa whenever a cardholder reports suspected fraud. Visa consolidates these reports into TC40 records and distributes them to the relevant acquirers or PSPs.
A TC40 record is not a chargeback. It is a fraud report, but it can later result in a fraud-related chargeback if no action is taken.

alert_dispute_notice

successful | failed

TC15. Visa generates TC15 records when issuers file chargebacks. These records are then made available to acquirers and processors.

alert_cancel_notice

successful | failed

Cancels or blocks a TC record before Visa extracts the data, helping reduce the VAMP ratio and avoid enforcement thresholds.

alert_verifi

successful | failed

Verifi alerts combine three types: dispute, fraud & other. Specific to Visa.

alert_rdr

successful | failed

Rapid Dispute Resolution (RDR) alert, specific to Visa. When successful, Visa automatically processes a refund equal to the original sale amount. This proactive refund prevents the dispute from progressing to a formal chargeback.

alert_order_insight

successful | failed

  • *Visa**-specific alert that provides additional transaction/order details before a chargeback is initiated.

alert_ethoca

successful | failed

Ethoca alerts combine three types: dispute, fraud & other. Specific to Mastercard.

VAMP (Visa acquirer monitoring program)

The VAMP ratio measures the percentage of transactions that result in fraud-related alerts. High VAMP ratios can lead to penalties or enforcement actions from Visa.

The VAMP ratio is calculated as follows: (number of TC40 fraud cases + number of TC15 dispute cases) ÷ CNP transactions in a given month.

TC record (Visa transaction control record)

A TC record is a data entry created by Visa to log and track transaction activity, especially related to fraud or disputes.
